ADE participation in the EES conference in Lisbon

Every two years the EES organises a conference bringing together professionals working in the field of evaluation. The 2008 conference was held in Lisbon during October and was attended by more than 600 participants from 72 countries.

During the conference ADE presented two subjects which received largely positive feedback from participants. They were:
  • “Evaluating channelling of aid by the European Commission through the UN, the WB and the EIB”. In his presentation Dr Edwin Clerckx, ADE director in charge of Evaluation, demonstrated that, if adapted to specific challenges, the methodology
used for thematic or sector evaluations can also be applied to evaluation of the practice of channelling funds through other organisations, and allows drawing out of useful conclusions. The presentation was based on ADE’s experience with two strategic evaluations on this subject conducted for the European Commission’s EuropeAid Cooperation Office.

  • “How to organise and use a large and heterogeneous set of indicators to identify the impact of the EU support for regional development?”. Mr Christophe Sauboin, ADE team leader of the data feasibility study for DG Regio’s ex post evaluation of the 2000-2006 cohesion policy programmes, showed in his paper and presentation how a large dataset encompassing more than 20.000 indicators can be used as a basis for improving European Cohesion Policy.
